Testing Link Vault

Link Vault is a system made up of a large group of quality websites. A new member must bring to the network at least one high quality website and make available a few links slots for existing members. In return you receive a 'Vaultage' which you use to receive links from the other existing members websites.

A website added to the network will be approved by a person before any links are placed to ensure it meets the systems strict quality guidelines. Statistics on the visitor activity of a web site

WhiteGyr installs a statistic package on many of our web sites we design and we usually use the services of Site Meter.

What is Site Meter? Site Meter is a fast and easy way to add a web counter to your web page. Not only does it display the number of visitors to your web site, it also keeps statistics on the number of visits each hour and each day. See an example of the real-time web traffic reporting you can have on your site. Site Meter also has a variety of web counter styles from which to choose.

We have been using Site Meter on WhiteGyr.com for several years and highly recommend their statistic packages, both their free and monthly fee options for web site statistics.

An RSS feed that shows recent posts to your BLOG

I have just found FeedBurner (http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/home) - a RSS/Atom post-processing service that allows publishers to enhance their feeds in a variety of interesting and powerful ways. By republishing their feeds through FeedBurner, publishers gain detailed feed statistics, maximum feed format compatibility, "shockproofing" to absorb bandwidth spikes, and more.

I have published one on their feeds in the right margin of this blog, "WhiteGyr's Web Page Design" that show in an animated gif that latest posts on this blog and you may publish this gif on any web site and even attach it to your emails as a signature.

GOOGLE PR UPDATE!!!

I just went from PR0 to PR5 Las Vegas Real Estate. Hope it sticks. Doesn't look like PR update is showing on all data centers yet.

Internet Explorer browser display problems

Here are some troubleshooting steps I got from Microsoft if your Internet Explorer browser seems to be having problems displaying Hotmail messages.

Clear your browser's cache or Temporary Internet Files

a. From the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options”
b. On the General tab, under "Temporary Internet Files", click "Delete Cookies" then click "Ok"
c. Click "Delete Files". Put a checkmark on the "Delete all offline content" radio button, and then click "Ok"

Set your browser to check for newer versions of stored pages

a. From the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options”
b. On the General tab, click "Settings"
c. Under "check for newer versions of stored pages", select "Every visit to the page"
d. Click "Ok"

Verify that your browser's cookies are enabled

a. Click "Tools" from your browser's menu, then click "Internet Options"
b. Click "Privacy" Tab, then click the "Advanced" button
c. Mark the checkbox beside "Override Automatic Cookie Handling"

Lower your "Security" settings

a. On the "Tools" menu, click "Internet Options"
b. Click "Security"
c. Click "Default Level"
d. Verify that the slider is set to "Medium”. If it is not, move the slider to "Medium" by clicking on it and moving your cursor to the appropriate direction
e. Click "Ok"

Enable all ActiveX controls and plug-ins:

a. From the "Tools" menu, select "Internet Options”
b. On the Security tab, select "Internet"
c. Click the "Custom Level" button
d. From the "Security Settings" dialog box, under "ActiveX Controls and plug-ins", select "Enable" except for "Download unsigned ActiveX controls". For this selection, choose either "Disable" or "Prompt"

Enable Java scripts:

a. Click Tools, then click on Internet Options
b. Click the Security tab
c. Click the Custom Level button, scroll to the Scripting section. Under Active scripting, allow paste operations via script, and Scripting of Java applets, check Enable
d. Click Ok

Add Microsoft sites to the trusted sites of your browser by following the steps given below:

a. Click on the Internet Explorer icon
b. Click on the Tools tab
c. Click on the Internet options
d. Click on the Security tab
e. Under the heading trusted sites, click on the Sites tab
f. Type https:\\*.Microsoft.com
g. Click the Add tab
h. Check mark the box which asks you for server verification each time
i. Click OK
j. Click Apply and Ok

How we automate our reciprocal linking program

The reciprocal link program for both www.whitegyr.com and www.web-design-is.us developed into a time consuming monster. In order to alleviate some of the effort required for the link programs I have installed an automatic linking program for web design web sites.

Using 301 Redirects

301 redirect is the most efficient and search engine friendly method for web page redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search engine rankings for that particular page. If you have to change file names or move pages around, it's the safest option. The code "301" means "moved permanently".
Here are three methods to apply URL Redirection

IIS Redirect (For windows servers)
In internet services manager, right click on the file or folder you wish to redirect
Select the radio titled "a redirection to a URL".
Enter the redirection page
Check "The exact url entered above" and the "A permanent redirection for this resource"
Click on 'Apply'

Redirect in PHP
Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
Header( "Location: http://www.new-url.com" );
?>

Redirect with htaccess (For Linux Servers)
Create a .htaccess file (if does not exists) in your root directory.

Redirection
If you're rearranging your site you can use .htaccess to painlessly redirect the user to the correct page.

The syntax is:
redirect accessed-file URL-to-go-to

Example:
redirect /programs.htm http://www.whitegyr.com/programs-new.htm
(The URL-to-go-to has to be full, even if you're going to another page on your site)
Anyone going to http://www.whitegyr.com/programs.htm will end up on http://www.whitegyr.com/programs-new.htm

Montana Taxidermy School

Can not publish from web to my computer Using FP 2003

I have been using FP 2003 for several months now and all of a sudden I am no longer able to go to one of my web sites (on the Inrternet) and publish back to my computer.

I get the message "Unable to process request. Subwebs have been created since you last accessed this Web. Refresh your view and try again."

I have tried every way I know to "Refresh your view" and nothing works.

Does anyone have a suggestion I am at wits end -- been fighting this for days now.
